FAQs
Garage Door Installation
The exact duration varies slightly depending on factors like the size of the door, the weather conditions, etc. However, in almost every case, we are able to install a new garage door in 1-3 days. Keep in mind that this estimate is for one door, so if you have a garage with multiple doors you want installed, it will inevitably take longer.
This timeframe does not include the obtaining and/or construction of the door. Custom garage doors can take 2-3 weeks and some currently unavailable models need to be ordered and shipped. It is simply a measure of how long it takes to install.
The total cost of having your new garage door installed depends on the door you choose as well as its size and the various additional features you may choose to install (garage door openers, keypads, etc.). Therefore, it is difficult to provide an accurate estimate without first knowing a bit about your property, taste and household needs.

Garage Door Replacement
It depends on a few factors like the size of the door, the weather conditions, whether the new and current door have compatible systems, etc. In general, we are able to install a new garage door within one day (3-8 hours).

Custom garage doors can take several weeks to build and some currently unavailable models need to be ordered and shipped. It is simply a measure of how long it takes to remove your current door and install the new one.

In some cases, like a broken window pane for instance, our team can easily address the issue without needing to replace the entire door. If your garage door has damage to one panel and it is a popular model, we can likely obtain the replacement panel and avoid the need of purchasing a whole new door. However, more severe damage may require us to replace the entire door and may in some cases even be more cost-effective for you.
Ultimately, it is impossible to answer this question without first assessing the damage. To schedule a free consultation and have your garage door assessed, call (213) 279-6567 or contact us here.
At Neighborly Garage Door Pros, we strongly advise against attempting to replace your garage door on your own. Not only do you run the risk of installing it incorrectly and causing damage to the newly purchased product, but it can also be extremely dangerous. Homeowners have actually died trying to install a garage door themselves because they did not have the knowledge or experience to perform the task safely, particularly when it comes to the springs. Garage doors are also very heavy and if one falls on you, it can cause serious injuries.
We understand the desire to save a bit of money on labor costs by doing home improvement products DIY-style. Replacing your garage door is not one of them. There are regular maintenance tasks you can perform to help save you on potential repair costs and our team would be happy to educate you on how to do so. But we urge you to leave intensive, dangerous jobs like garage door replacement to the professionals.
Garage Door Repair
In almost every case, we are able to repair your garage door in less than a day. There is always the possibility that the repair requires a part that needs to be specially ordered and delivered, in which case the timeframe will change. However, this rarely ever happens and we prepare for all possibilities so we can repair it on the spot.
If you have an issue that you need dealt with ASAP, we offer 24/7 same-day emergency services. Give us a call at (213) 279-6567 and we will be over as soon as we can!

As we discussed in the Garage Door Replacement section above, this is not a DIY area of home improvement. You could cause serious harm to yourself and your garage door by trying to fix it yourself. Not to mention you could end up having to pay more to repair the damage you cause (or even in medical bills) than it would cost to have a professional address the problem from the start.
Another important factor to note is that most garage door work comes with a warranty, so the repairs may end up costing you a lot less than you think. Working on it yourself will also automatically void that warranty.
Struggling with your garage door after hours? Neighborly Garage Door Pros offers 24/7 same-day emergency services for all your garage door repair needs!
Garage Door Maintenance
As with most household items you use on a daily basis, garage doors should be inspected and maintained regularly, particularly if you want to get the most out of their lifespan. Garage doors experience wear and tear over time and making sure you regularly check on them and address minor issues can prevent major problems and high repair costs.
At Neighborly Garage Door Pros, we recommend you schedule a maintenance visit at least once a year for newly installed doors and even more frequently (2-3 times a year) if you have an older model in order to prevent serious damage and malfunctioning. We offer a 1-year maintenance plan for our customers which includes a visit every 6 months to check the tension, oil the tracks and inspect for any signs of impending issues.
Though we don’t recommend repairing or replacing a garage door on your own, there are certainly small things you can check and do on a regular basis to make sure your door keeps operating properly. Here are a few DIY maintenance tasks homeowners can perform to make sure their door is in good condition:
- Clean your garage door – Wash the interior and exterior with a soft sponge or cloth and soap thoroughly rinse it with a hose. For wooden doors, simply use a dry, soft cloth and wipe it down without water. Also, use a broom to remove any debris, cobwebs, etc., particularly around the tracks and motor
- Replace batteries and bulbs – Check on the batteries in your remote opener as well as the one on your wall and replace when needed. When a bulb goes out, make sure to replace it with one recommended by the manufacturer.
- Check the hardware – Regularly check the hardware (screws, nuts, hinges, etc.) to make sure everything is properly fastened. If something is loose, you can probably tighten it yourself with a screwdriver, but if it gives you difficulty, call a professional so as not to force it and cause damage. Warning: Never touch the bolts on the torsion springs. You can also regularly lubricate the hinges with lubricant found at a local hardware store and clean the tracks with carburetor or brake fluid. However, never lubricate them as this could cause the door to slip and become unbalanced.
There are a few signs that indicate your garage door could likely benefit from a maintenance visit before they grow into significant issues and costly repairs:
- Unusual noises when you open or close it
- It is closing slower, faster, or more unevenly than usual
- The opener, keypad or remote aren’t working properly (and you have already tried replacing the battery)
- Any other abnormal functioning
If you have recently recognized any of these symptoms, contact us here anytime or call us at (213) 279-6567 to schedule a maintenance/repair visit.
